When it comes to fundraising the Southwest Kansas Board of REALTORS® does things a little differently. 2019 marks the fourth year of the Lil’ Buckers Rodeo, SWKSBOR’s largest fundraising event of the year. The event allows children ages 6-18 to show off their skills on bucking stock saddle broncs, bareback and bulls in each age category. Roughly 20 participants compete for spots in the Regional finals, held in Liberal in September. In 2018 three Lil’ Buckers participants qualified to compete in the finals for the first time.
“Local Realtors enjoy hosting the rodeo because of the rich history of the area which was built on farming and ranching,” said President Donald Witzke.
In lieu of an entry fee, a donation of two canned goods is suggested and free will monetary donations are also accepted. Other organizations provide free goods and services for the event as well. Attendees can get free cotton candy, popcorn and water. The event raises about $500 for a local charity determined by the board. The 2018 recipient was the Liberal Area Rape Crisis/Domestic Violence Service.
