Prairie Land REALTORS® supported several different organizations in 2018. They assisted Circles of McPherson by providing a dinner for about 75 people. Circles helps those in need move out of poverty, which changes the lives of future generations. An eighteen-week class, called Getting Ahead, helps participants gain knowledge and build relationships in the community. After completing the class Circle Leaders are paired with friends known as Allies, who offer support and help the participants achieve their goals. The program helps end poverty and REALTORS® understand the need to help those who need a fresh start.
One of the most moving projects Prairie Land REALTORS® is working on is the Play Haven Memorial Park, which is being built to honor 11-year Haven Stambaugh who passed away in March 2017. Haven suffered from chronic lung and immune system complications throughout her life, beginning in her infancy.
Prairie Land received a Placemaking grant from NAR and the Prairie Land board of directors agreed to match up to $5,000 in donations for the park. Personal donations exceeded $5,000. The playground will feature natural playscape materials, a sidewalk chalk canvas area, and a four-square court. Learn more about Haven’s story and the project here: https://youtu.be/kl0i2p3cXNM.
In 2018 Prairie Land REALTORS® also participated in Kansas Mission of Mercy’s Dental Days. Each year the Kansas Dental Charitable Foundation sponsors Dental Days and the organization offers free dental services for two days in a Kansas town. Over the two days, 10 REALTORS® assisted dental hygienists with routine cleanings, oral surgeons with extractions, and supporting administrative staff with paperwork. Care was provided to 1,150 patients for a total of $1,396,068 in donated services including 3,345 tooth extractions and 1,175 fillings.
“I had no idea the need for dental services in our area…the parking lot was full of people camped out overnight so they could have teeth pulled,” said one member.
