This fall the Lawrence Board of REALTORS® will hold their 6th Annual Charity Classic golf tournament. Since it began in 2013 the tournament has grown and now there are spots for up to 100 golfers. Golfers are not just REALTORS® though, affiliate partners (like lenders and title companies) as well as community members participate in the event. For non-golfers, there is a “19th Hole Celebration.” Hors d’oeuvres are served, top golfers are awarded, and everyone is encouraged to purchase raffle tickets for various prizes.
Over the past five years LBOR has donated over $40,000 to individuals and families to stabilize their home environments. Organizations that LBOR has helped include: Family Promise, the Salvation Army, Lawrence & Douglas County Housing Authority, Lawrence Community Shelter, the Ballard Community Center, Penn House, Social Service League, Habitat for Humanity, and 100 Good Women.
Following continued success of their fundraising efforts, LBOR established a community foundation, which increases the visibility of REALTORS®’ community involvement. They are now able to direct their charitable giving to support the goal and mission of the LBOR Community Foundation, to build a stronger community through housing. The LBOR has agreed to cover all administrative costs of the foundation, and can confidently tell donors that 100% of event proceeds go directly to those in need in Lawrence and Douglas County.
Two new events for 2019 included a Texas Hold ‘em Poker, which took place in the spring, and Summer Brew Fest in June.
