Capitol Conference Recap

Over 130 REALTORS® attended the 2018 Capitol Conference and gained fresh perspective on how politics impacts their business and their clients.

Here are the top takeaways from this year’s event:

1. Being present matters – Legislators want to talk with constituents and learn about the issues. On Wednesday afternoon more than 100 Kansas Association of REALTOR® members went to the State Capitol to advance property rights and talk issues with lawmakers. That evening, forty Representatives and Senators attended our Legislative Reception to hear about the issues directly from their REALTOR® constituents.

2. Politics is part of our business – Kansas REALTORS® must act. Issues like taxation, school finance, and licensing and regulation come up frequently. As a member of the Kansas Association of REALTORS® you have active Capitol representation through our Governmental Affairs department and your local association. You also have your voice to lend and can take action. Right now KAR is tracking and acting on 25 bills and watching dozens more. The issues range from imposing sales tax on certain services to rehabilitation of abandoned property. To stay on top of the politics impacting your business at the state and national level sign up for the REALTOR® Party mobile alerts so you can act when your voice is needed. You can also learn more about the issues and where Kansas REALTORS® stand with the 2018 Perspective on Politics.

3. Invest in yourself – Invest in the Kansas REALTOR® Party. When you invest in the Kansas REALTOR® Party, you’re investing in your business and your future. A $15 investment helps ensure Kansas REALTORS® are heard in your community, at the State Capitol and in Washington, D.C.

Make sure to save the date and join us for the 2019 Capitol Conference.
