So You Want To Be An NAR Director from Kansas…

Being elected as a member of the NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF REALTORS® Board of Directors is an honor and a duty to your peers from across the United States.

The State Association has two allocated NAR Directors as members of the NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF REALTORS® Board of Directors. The State Association President is also an automatic member of the NAR Board of Directors during their term as President.

The NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF REALTORS® may also appoint additional members of their Board of Directors. Kansas has also been represented on the NAR Board of Directors by former NAR President Nestor R. Weigand, Jr., of Wichita; and NAR Distinguished Service Award recipient Ben Blair of Topeka.

Large Local Associations (over 2,000 members) also have representatives on the National Board of Directors. These Directors are elected by the Local Associations. Anyone interested in serving in these local association slots should contact their Local Association.

NAR Board of Directors members serve two year terms.

NAR Director-Elect

Besides the two NAR Directors, the Kansas Association of REALTORS® also elects an NAR Director-Elect to attend and get acquainted with the NAR Board of Directors process. NAR Director-Elects do not have a vote at the NAR Board of Directors meetings.

An NAR Director-Elect is elected by the Kansas Association of REALTORS® Board of Directors each year. After serving a 1-year term as Director-Elect, the REALTOR® automatically begins their 2-year term as an NAR Director.

The Elections

Elections take place annually during the KAR Annual Conference. Members of the KAR Board of Directors vote to elect the NAR Director-Elect, from a list of certified candidates as determined by the Chief Executive Officer. Being a “certified candidate” indicates that you are a member in good standing with the Kansas Association of REALTORS® and meet the eligibility requirements of the office.

Getting On The Ballot

If you’re interested in becoming an NAR Director representing the Kansas Association of REALTORS®, you can declare your candidacy by asking your Local Association of REALTORS® to write a letter placing you in nomination. There is no nomination form. This letter and your resume (optional) should be received by the CEO of the Kansas Association of REALTORS® at least 30 days prior to the KAR Annual Conference.

If your Local Association has representation on the NAR Board of Directors, you can contact your Local Association to find out about the nomination process for those seats.

Your Duties as An Officer

Each office has different responsibilities. Check the KAR Committees page on the website for the job description of the NAR Director-Elect and NAR Directors.
